Privacy policy
Effective 4 November 2026
G Track is a personal, non-commercial app for a small group of friends. This page explains what it stores, who can see it, and how long it is kept.
What G Track stores
- From your Google account, when you sign in: your name, email address and profile photo. G Track asks Google for nothing else.
- Your location, while sharing is on: latitude and longitude, accuracy, speed and direction, your phone's battery level, and the time of each reading. A reading is saved about every 5 minutes, or sooner when you move.
- Your groups: which groups you belong to, when you joined, and who the admin is.
- Sharing status: whether sharing is paused or location is turned off on your phone, and when your phone last reported.
Who can see it
- Only people who are in at least one group with you can see your name, photo, location and location history.
- New members of a group can see the last 7 days of history, including from before they joined.
- When you pause sharing, others stop seeing your live position. Locations recorded earlier stay visible until they are deleted after 7 days.
- If you leave a group or are removed, people in that group can no longer see you, unless you share another group with them.
- Your data is never sold, used for advertising, or shared with anyone outside your groups.
How long it is kept
- Every location reading is deleted automatically 7 days after it was recorded.
- Your profile and group memberships are kept until you delete your account.
- Deleting your account in the app removes your profile, memberships and all of your location readings immediately.
Services G Track uses
- Supabase stores the data above in a database hosted in Tokyo, Japan, and handles sign-in.
- Google confirms your identity when you sign in.
- OpenFreeMap provides the map images. Your phone downloads them directly, so OpenFreeMap sees your internet address and the map area you view, but not your saved locations.
Your choices
- Pause or resume sharing at any time in the app's settings.
- Leave any group at any time.
- Delete your account and all of your data from the app's settings.
- Location access can also be turned off in Android's settings; the app then stops recording.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. For questions or to ask for your data to be deleted, message the person who runs G Track for your group, or open an issue on GitHub (issues there are public).
